Outstanding Web Sites Worth Checking Out

The Monthly Collection, for June 2006
(for archived sites see the map below)

  • Food- In Belgium there is a synonym for ecstacy: Leonidas Chocolate!
  • Literature- I believe Christopher Moore is Canadian. Whatever, he is also rumored to be very funny and I am dying to read his books. With titles like "Fluke, Or, I Know Why the Winged Whale Sings" and "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal" he sounds darkly funny to me.
  • Magazine- Dog Fancy has a rather well done web site that they call DogChannel. Go- fetch it!
  • Art- This month, how about a god overview site of great art and artists? I submit to you Artcyclopedia
  • Music- Oh, how I love this woman. Her death was a tragedy and a surprise. Her music, her songs, her voice are fantastic- it's Kirsty MacColl
  • Radio- An excellent overview of what's new in music with a healthy sample of each artist is offered up by All Songs Considered by National Public Radio. If you don't get it where you live (like me) it is also available as a free podcast.
  • TV- Even though it's off the air, it lives on in DVD's, and in the hearts of its fans. It's MST3K, or, Mystery Science Theater 3000
  • Movie- The best source for the oddest movies available on DVD is Rhino Video
  • Humor- One of the writers, performers, and the second host of MST3K, Mike Nelson
  • Cause- Righting wrongs and slaying dragons is the business of The Southern Poverty Law Center. They got the Aryan Nations out of Idaho and, essentially, off the face of the Earth (if in name only).
  • Miscellanious- This was sent to me by my friend, Mike in California. It's the Astronomy Picture Of The Day.
  • Best- All of you little sorcerers and witches should look at the home web site for Harry Potter creator J.K. Rolling
  • Worst- Sometimes.... sometimes you just don't know, you know? There are a lot of people in this world and eventually there is a group that supports everything. So, while I was sure there were fans and devotees of the folksy-artsy "Sock Monkey" I didn't think there would be a publicly viewable message board. Fans of sock monkeys .... not that there's anything wrong with that.
